Relational Outreach Approach

We provide relationally-based outreach and ongoing supportive services to individuals being released from prison and street-based outreach to the mentally ill homeless. We use the backgrounds and experiences of our team to help those in need in tangible ways. Through job placement, housing placement, coaching and mentoring and connecting people to supportive services we make a difference one person at a time.

Diane Maher is the President and Chief Operating Officer of DP Fox Ventures, LLC, a diversified management company with interests in real estate, transportation, fashion, sports and entertainment. She is also the President & COO for Fox Motors. Fox Motors is a retail automotive and powersports group representing 52 locations and 48 brands. The locations stretch from Chicago to Grand Rapids to Marquette in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Diane started at DP Fox Ventures in 1993 as the firm’s Vice President of Finance. She was promoted to Chief Financial Officer a few years later and to Chief Operating Officer of Fox Motors in 2009. She has handled acquisitions of all Fox Motors dealerships in her role as CFO and COO starting with the very first one in 2000. Diane previously worked at Deloitte & Touche LLP from 1987-1993 as an Audit Manager and as a financial consultant to DP Fox.

Ms. Maher is a graduate of Ferris State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy. She received her designation as a CPA in 1987. She is currently a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Ms. Maher serves on the Our Daily Bread Ministries Board of Directors and is the past Chairman of their Personnel, Finance and Audit Committee. She also serves on the West Michigan Policy Forum Board of Directors and is a member of their Executive Committee. She has been appointed to the Mercantile Bank of Michigan Board of Directors and its Audit Committee and is a past member of its IT Steering Committee.

Diane lives in East Grand Rapids, MI and has three children.

Scott Vogel is the Chief Operating Officer of One Starfish Foundation. Scott, along with Diane Maher, founded One Starfish Foundation.

Scott Vogel is the Chief Operating Officer of One Starfish Foundation. Scott, along with Diane Maher, founded One Starfish Foundation. Scott is directly involved in the mentoring and coaching of men coming out of incarceration. He will assist them with housing, employment, and connecting them with other resources needed for their continued growth. Scott also leads the outreach team targeting the mentally ill homeless that are living on the streets or in crises.

Scott is a graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Horticulture. He has worked in both management and ownership roles in the Floral Industry and Landscape Construction and Design Industry.

Scott Vogel has been the Executive Director and Founder of Non Profit organizations serving at-risk youth, families in crises, and mentally ill homeless.  While serving in this role for almost 14 years he developed partnerships and mentoring programs with public schools, business, and churches to build a volunteer base of over 200 people to serve directly in the community. Scott has also served as a board member of Weed and Seed, a Department of Justice community program targeting high crime neighborhoods.

Scott lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife and children.

Susan Howe

Chief Financial Officer

Howe oversees all financial matters and directs accounting field professionals for all DP Fox affiliates and Family Investments.

Howe oversees all financial matters and directs accounting field professionals for all DP Fox affiliates and Family Investments. Howe joined DP Fox in 1995 as controller, was promoted in 2003 to Director of Development and Operations, and previously held the position Vice President of Finance – Fox Motors. Over the years, she has overseen Fox Motors accounting and finances, and has played a key role in automotive development, acquisitions and mergers, in addition to supporting a variety of Family Investments.

Howe graduated from Hope College with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She received her CPA license in 1993. Prior to joining DP Fox, she was a Senior Accountant for Deloitte LLP.  Howe currently serves as Treasurer for the One Starfish Foundation and has held various positions with Forest Hills Northern athletic and parent boards throughout the years.  Susan and her husband, Chris, have two sons, Jacob (Ashley) and Ryan, and one daughter, Meredith.

Hannah Rohn

Strategy and Storytelling

Hannah uses her passion for mental health and personal development combined with her professional experience scaling technologies and leading teams to help translate the One Starfish Foundation vision into relatable and actionable strategy.

Hannah is a Grand Rapids native and Michigan State University graduate. Hannah has spent the last ten years in the healthcare/MedTech industry holding a variety of sales, marketing and leadership roles with fortune 500 companies, start-ups, scale-ups, and in between. Prior to her MedTech career, Hannah previously owned a successful floral and horticultural design business and worked for globally recognized botanic gardens.

Outside of and in parallel to her professional career, Hannah is passionate about personal development, mental health, and coaching individuals to better embody the best version of themselves. At One Starfish Foundation, Hannah is focused on helping us tell our story, define our focus, and bring to light the common thread of humanity shared between every single one of us.

Dennis Johnson

Stewardship and Transition Principles

Dennis' focus is on “developing wealth within poor urban communities”, developing young urban leaders to “make a difference” and teaching Stewardship and Transition Principles to business owners wanting to manage change and transition into a more balanced life.

Dennis earned his Social Work degree from Taylor University after completing the research, site immersion and Capstone Thesis focused on power and poverty structures on the south side of Chicago. Having a passion for young people and human development, he continued his work in adventure-based youth ministry taking groups across the US riding bicycles, rock/snow and ice climbing, whitewater trips and teaching wilderness leadership skills. This continued as a passion for wilderness adventure which motivated him to climb Mt Denali, Mt Assiniboine, and Mt. Robson.

He started his first business in construction in 1976, but quickly transitioned into education getting his MA Degree in Communications and Organizational Development. Student Development provided a good environment to blend his social work, teaching and educational training. He received the “Administrator of the Year” award while as the Dean of Students at Spring Arbor College.

An opportunity to transition into business came at Zondervan Corporation to be part of a turnaround team and apply his graduated studies in organizational development. That evolved into leading the effort to consolidate all of Zondervan’s Grand Rapids business units one corporate distribution facility. Eventually, when Harper Collins purchased bought out Zondervan, Dennis was also assigned a new roll of VP of Store Development heading up their new national initiative of growing Family Christian Stores.

Dennis left Zondervan to start Corporate Connections, Inc, a consulting business which focused on the application of technology to improve customer service, leadership development and organizational health. This led to several long-term relationships to manage the changes outlined in strategic planning. It also led to work in the late 1990’s on an Internet IPO call “Artibles”.  

When an investor wanted to invest a large amount of money into Charter Schools, Dennis was asked to be part of the real estate development team at Bouma Corporation. As Director of Pre-Construction, Dennis set up the department “Team Leader” position to facilitate communications and project management between the educational and construction worlds. In time he became the Chief Marketing Officer and focused on developing the Bouma Way and Bouma Brand and positioned Bouma to be part of the Green Sustainable School Movement in California.

After 2009, Dennis focused his consulting business, Corporate Connections on small start-up ventures, new product development, executive coaching, and corporate transitions. The focus is on the relevant business trends and forces which will impact the 21st Century organization and the key factors necessary in creating a high performance and sustainable business enterprise.

Dennis has served as a Board Member on 6 urban boards and helped start 3 different urban ministries. In addition, he has served on the “Center for Innovation and Research” at Taylor University and was a founding member of the “International Facilities Management Association”.

Today, his focus is on “developing wealth within poor urban communities”, developing young urban leaders to “make a difference” and teaching Stewardship and Transition Principles to business owners wanting to manage change and transition into a more balanced life.
